“O wild West Wind, thou breath of Autumn’s being . . . ”
— Percy Bysshe Shelley

Minimalist White Leaf

At the River’s Edge
Inspired by my Leaf Motif Series

The river’s edge reveals a fleeting space,
Where emerald yields to bronze and weathered rust,
As autumn winds dismantle summer’s grace,
And brittle fragments gather into dust.

The water catches evening’s fractured light,
With flashes drawn from silver, gold, and chrome;
While leaves and loosened remnants twist in flight,
Then settle where the shifting currents comb.

Upon the page, the smaller scale draws near,
Inviting slower looking, mark by mark,
Where layered forms emerge, dissolve, appear,
Like traces briefly lifted from the dark.

Through flowing ink, the season shifts its form,
And movement holds what cannot be reborn.
