About Michal Mitak

I am a Virginia-based mixed media artist and poet whose creative journey spans over two decades in both visual and literary arts. My work emerges from a place of memory, movement, and meditation—often inspired by my Moroccan heritage, nature’s quiet rhythms, and the interior landscapes shaped by womanhood, spirituality, and resilience.

I blend floral motifs and swirling circular patterns, layering digital collage with watercolor, pastel, and ink. My art celebrates bold color, intuitive composition, and a deep emotional resonance that reflects the complexities of identity, time, and transformation. Whether honoring ancestral roots, capturing the shifting light of a fall afternoon, or exploring altered states of being, each piece is a conversation between the seen and the sensed.

In addition to painting, I am the author of six poetry chapbooks and an active participant in several regional and international poetry communities. As former founder-publisher and editor of Poetica Publishing and managing editor of Poetica Magazine, I’ve long supported fellow poets in bringing their voices to life. Today, I continue to balance creative and professional pursuits, including my role as marketing director and interior decorator for Prestige Realty and Colley Executive Offices, where I design visual environments for over four-hundred small business professionals.

Whether I'm working in my studio, curating office spaces, or walking in nature, creativity remains my constant companion. Through art and poetry, I seek to connect, deeply and authentically, with the world around and within.
